Life in General / Re: Mama D turned 89 today

It most certainly did. It's usually a bittersweet thing when I visit Mama D. Watching her health deteriorate these last few years breaks my heart. For a little while yesterday, we were all able to forget our problems and just have fun as a family. I hope we get to do it again, and I hope we get to do it in person soon.

I hope so too. I hope we can collectively get this virus rubbed out and get back whatever passed for normal prior to this pandemic.

Sis and I went down to spend the afternoon with her in the long term care facility.
We're the only two allowed to visit her in person because of teh Covid. :(

I set up a group video chat with some of the family, and we chatted for over an hour.
It actually went surprising well, and I saw Mama D smile and laugh several times today, which made it more than worth the 6 hour round trip.  8)

I hope you all are keeping well.  :-*

Warms my heart to read this Dan. Happy you had some quality time with your Mom. I know it put a smile on your kind face. 🙂👍🏻❤️

Tuesday, after radiation ☢️, I will get part 1 of my corona vaccine. Hopefully now the near constant harping from my niece about getting it will abate. Shees. She was getting downright nasty about it. “In a loving way”. Guess she’s been learning these somewhat uppity and devious machinations from them Yankees she’s been living around for a couple of decades now. 🤣

The Lad has been mentioning it as well though. He broke into a big smile at lunch today when I told him I had it scheduled, and said he had been really worried about it.

I guess it’s right move for me. I don’t know. With all the mutations coming up I have to admit to no small amount of skepticism about it’s long term efficacy.

Then again, I don’t want to be lumped in with idiot deniers.

it excites me to do something other than what the clones are doing...  the gong community is very similar to other musician groups... or just humans in general...  “beatles covers are selling well, so i must learn more beatles tunes...”. and soon, thats all one hears and everyone wonders why the local scene is so boring and everyone sounds just like everyone else...  we become interchangeable cogs with no individuality...  nothing that sets us apart from the next swinging time signature looking for a gig...   gong pilots are no different it seems...i see more folks worried about getting fingerprints on their instruments and more time spent polishing and arguing petty personal agendas than learning or exploring new techniques and basic playing skills.  i see peeps spending outrageous amounts of money on gear and wardrobe...  all the fixin’s but no idea wtf to do once they get all gussied up in their silk kimonos and picture perfect video set, but as soon as they pick up a mallet you realize they’re clueless, witless dullards that read a recipe on google and feel theyve become a world class chef...   the same guy that sees slash or some other hollywood-esque clone on stage and buys a marshall stack, fender strat, leather biker gear and a wig and three days later is auditioning for the lead guitar in your band...   ummmmm, nope!     mtv stars...   got all the moves just dub in a track...
gong forums are no diff from guitar forums...  gear snobs without a clue...   clones of gear snobs wandering without realizing clues are necessary...  peeps that are just flat out full of **** arguing pointless, meaningless nothings and then the 43rd dimensional light workers from planet niburoid start channeling guru gong phat about which piece of **** road gravel you should place under your left testicle to open your woodchuckras...  theres actual, physical science as foundation for sonic therapy. repeatable, documented proof of specific physical and mental responses to vibration that can have great therapeutic effect on us and our environment. but its both destructive and generative energy, no different than anything else...  meh, its early and im rambling on about nothing much...   took my bp pills, time to finish my morning meds...

I enjoy your threads. I can barely manage 200 words in a row. There’s always interesting turns of phrase, new things. “Gong Pilots” indeed!
Can totally relate to the cork sniffers you alude to in forums. That’s what finally turned me off to The Gear Page. You just know there are peeps there googling the hell out of things before replies in order to sound learned.

you know ive been experimenting with asmr recording, but i wanted to take it to the next level...   to produce a true total surround sound experience, live, real time, for up to, say...   50 people or so...    and i believe it’s been realized.  my first test subject, my eldest son, was able to tell when i turned my head, and the location of the gongs being played, in correct spatial proximity!   i need to repeat the experiment with fresh, educated ears...
i remember the who trying to do live quad sound... pink floyd doing live surround sound, kinda sorta... and it was expensive, intensely labor intensive and a techs nightmare.   and this dumb hillbilly is quite possibly reproducing true, 3-D sound using 2 qsc k8’s, a yorkville elite sub, a yamaha stereo 12 channel mixer and two microphones that fit inside my ear canal...   its scary effective at reproducing the conditions for binaural pulses, or “beats”...  josh, my eldest, freaked because he could feel the pulse... sitting inside his camry, in the garage...  he said he thought wtf? earthquake??   oh wait... dad...
im excited!   this could be a lot of fun!

Sounds awesome! Love the enthusiasm on your part!
