I loaned the kid across the street $500 a few months ago. I told him not to worry about paying it back.

Really. I had forgotten about it. He’s a good kid. He’s gotten in trouble a time or two, typical late 20’s stuff. Works hard, has a bit too much to drink and finds someone to have argument with. But he and his Mom have lived across the street for about ten years. His mom and my wife became friends after her husband died unexpectedly. We’re real neighbors.

Anyway, the kid heard about my radiation and that I had quit drinking and showed up last night with the $500 bucks in an envelope, and a small baggie of weed. Said he knew I didn’t do it anymore but thought it might not hurt to have a puff or two to lift my spirits.

I feel real good right now.

Thanks, Dudely. That means a lot to me.
When Mom and Dad started having difficulties, I made a decision to help them both as best I could because I didn't want to look back on this time and know that I could have done more. That being said, I do have days where I wish I was able to do more for them, but I did what I was able to at the time. It certainly hasn't been easy, but I'm glad I was able to help as much as I have.

Edited because I have fat fingers. :)

P.S. I'm glad our paths have crossed, too.  :-*

It most certainly did. It's usually a bittersweet thing when I visit Mama D. Watching her health deteriorate these last few years breaks my heart. For a little while yesterday, we were all able to forget our problems and just have fun as a family. I hope we get to do it again, and I hope we get to do it in person soon.

I hope so too. I hope we can collectively get this virus rubbed out and get back whatever passed for normal prior to this pandemic.
